Navigating Change Together – Project Vida’s Commitment to Our Community
Dear Staff and Partners,
As many of you are aware, the current political environment has created uncertainty around federal funding, particularly for organizations like ours that serve underserved communities. While no direct changes have impacted Project Vida yet, we recognize the potential risks and are actively assessing how evolving policies may affect our work.
A Difficult but Necessary Precaution
As part of this effort, we recently removed certain content from our website related to gender-affirming care, gender inclusivity, and LGBTQ+ services. This decision was not made because we have changed our values or our mission, but rather as a precautionary measure based on guidance from the Texas Association of Community Health Centers (TACHC). Given the evolving political landscape, TACHC recommended that health centers like ours take steps to align with current federal expectations while we assess potential impacts on funding.
We understand that this decision may be concerning, and we want to be clear: Project Vida remains unwavering in its mission to serve all people with dignity, respect, and care. While some program adjustments may be necessary to comply with federal regulations, we are committed to finding ways to continue providing exceptional care and support in ways that align with our historic values and mission including loving one another as God has loved us.
Our Approach Moving Forward
For Our Team: We ask that you remain focused on your work and continue providing the exceptional service that defines Project Vida. We are proactively exploring alternative funding sources, including diversified grants, fundraising, and expanded partnerships, to ensure our programs continue uninterrupted.
For Our Partners: Now, more than ever, collaboration is key. We encourage you to stand with us—to advocate for continued funding, explore new ways to support our mission, and mobilize resources that will help sustain the services our community relies on.
Transparency & Open Communication
We are committed to keeping you informed as we navigate these shifts. While policies may change, our values remain the same—we will always adapt in ways that uphold our commitment to the communities we serve.
My door is always open if you have questions, concerns, or ideas. We welcome your feedback and encourage conversations that strengthen our collective impact.
Thank you for your dedication, resilience, and belief in the work we do. Together, we will continue making a difference.
Sincerely,
Tim Davenport-Herbst
