Early Childhood Development Center
Project Vida’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) Center is a licensed childcare center for children ages 0 to 5 years.
Texas School Ready! – The ECD Center incorporates the Texas School Ready! comprehensive pre-school teacher training program combining an evidence-based, State-adopted curriculum with ongoing professional development and age-appropriate child progress monitoring tools.
Texas Rising Star – The ECD Center consistently receives a Four-Star (highest) certification rating designated by the State of Texas Workforce Solutions Borderplex Child Care Services (CCS).
“Frog Street for Infants, Toddlers and Pre-K” – The ECD Center’s curriculum emphasizes age-appropriate early childhood literacy and school readiness including letter and number recognition; basic math skills and concepts such as identifying, sorting and matching; phonics; science concepts and activities; reading and library activities; creative art; manipulatives; music; drama center; and outdoor play. The curriculum is approved for Texas Rising Star certification.
Meals Provided – Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided to enrolled children at no additional cost under the Texas Department of Agriculture. Food is prepared by kitchen staff; all hold Food Handlers certification from the State of Texas.
Each age group in the ECD Center has a dedicated room for instruction and childcare:
Infants and toddlers
2-3 year olds
3-4 year olds
4-5 year olds
The ECD Center has limited short-term scholarships for qualifying families when funding is available. These scholarships are meant to serve as a bridge when the parent is on the CCS waiting list or other similar services. Families receiving scholarships are expected to be working or studying at least 25 hours during the week and to attend parenting education classes. Parents may participate in “Nurturing Parent/Crianza con Cariño” parenting education in person, by Google Meet, or by information provided through the ECD Center.
For parents enrolled in Workforce Solutions Borderplex, CCS determines eligibility for subsidized childcare based on family income, as funding is available..
Parents interested in enrolling their children in Project Vida’s ECD Center program should call the Center at (915) 465-1191, ext. 213, to schedule an appointment.
The ECD Center offers several parenting education programs:
“Nurturing Parent/Crianza con Cariño” – The ECD Center provides this curriculum-based program on relevant parenting topics in group sessions, which are offered in person or by Google Meet. The curriculum also may be accessed by email or through information provided by the ECD Center. However, attending in person or by Google Meet is highly recommended.
“The Nurturing Program for Families in Substance Abuse Treatment and Recovery” – The ECD Center can make referrals to this program.
“Parents as Teachers” – The ECD Center can refer parents to this program. “Parents as Teachers” is offered by United Way of El Paso County and includes one-on-one, curriculum-based, in-home visits by trained facilitators.

One of the original programs of Project Vida, the Early Childhood Development Center, opened in September 1995. The community had voiced concern about the lack of licensed childcare providers in south-central El Paso and the noticeable learning delay in the development of the area’s children. The ECD Center was established to meet these community concerns. The Center also initiated programs to promote parenting strategies and create a safe and welcoming place in which families could explore and learn. Project Vida continues to maintain this approach and its commitment to optimal early childhood development and parental support.
