Healthy Cooking Classes

The Healthy Cooking classes are a community- based program guided by a community member with the purpose of sharing and discussing healthy alternatives to traditional food preparation. The group meets two hours once a week, to learn and taste new recipes with a variety of ingredients without preservatives. The main objective is to substitute ingredients in our traditional meals to healthier ones, to create better meals in an easier manner.

Cooking Class Objectives:

· Use of Organic Ingredients

· Regular sugar vs. natural sugar substitutes

· Table salt vs. natural seasoning

· Saturated fats vs. unsaturated fats

· Identifying empty calorie foods

· Vegan and vegetarian recipes

This program started 12 years ago, out of an increasing awareness of diabetes and to be a part of holistic wellness. By preparing the community to encourage people to eat well, Project Vida is trying to help avoid the long term consequences that can come with an unbalanced diet.
